Movies I've seen so far...
Since November 2012 I've been to the movies more than probably in the past 15 years combined. Since I have nothing better to do I thought I'd list them in order of memory, but not ranking.
SKYFALL
Some of the Old School Bond fans are wondering what all the hype is about. They want the gadgets and the sexy girls and the suave debonair Bond. Skyfall shuns that, openly within the movie, choosing instead to focus on action and a plot that's not so over the top as in the past. That aside, what I truly believe is driving force behind the resurgence of the Bond franchise is the realization that there are characters other than Bond, then giving those rolls to actor who can ACT.
RISE OF THE GUARDIANS
This one was for the kids.
First a word about 3D. I don't mind it if the conditions are right, being I'm sitting somewhere near the center of the theater. Otherwise, because I wear glasses, the image doesn't hit me square on and the action scenes are just blurry.
So, the movie was a very pleasant surprise. A lot of computer animated movies coming out these days are just crap, with crap animation and crap humor, and just generally a cash grab because their are so few movies you can take your kids. Guardians was not one of these. It was a first rate movie with a first rate voice cast, genuinely funny with a good plot. My kids enjoyed it and so did I.
LINCOLN
I bet when Daniel Day Lewis makes a movie other actors cringe. That might have been the year they had the role of a lifetime and gave the performance of their careers. Then *POOF* all those Oscar hopes become what dreams are made of as Lewis reminds the world what real acting is all about. Steven Speilberg, knowing what kind of icon he was messing with when dealing with Lincoln, hired the best of the best and he got the best of their best. That said, it does help the viewer to at least know of Lincoln, or have an interest in the time period of the movie because it is long.
HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA
While I wouldn't put this one in the cash-grab category, it does come close. Just not firing on all cylinders for me, BUT that is my adult side talking. My youngest liked it well enough, so for the kids, sure, but don't expect much.
THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE
There is a lot of talk on the Net comparing the Hobbit to the Lord of the Rings and that there is too much "padding" in the movie. Yes, there is plenty of padding in the movie. The Lord of the Rings is a 3 book epic while the Hobbit is a single children's book that director Peter Jackson intends to stretch out into 3 movies. What a lot of people forget is, not everyone has seen the Lord of the Rings because they were too young or just weren't into it at the time. When you make MOVIE 1 of a trilogy, you can't just assume everyone has seen this before so there is no point in going over it again. Anyway, the point is, The Hobbit is worth going to see, even in 3D because is not just a great story, it is visually stunning.
ZERO DARK THIRTY
A fictional account of the real events during the hunt and killing of Osama Bin Laden. While you might think the movie boring because you know the outcome, I found the opposite to be true. The movie had a peculiar tension throughout BECAUSE I knew the outcome. A fascinating look at 'real' Intelligence Gathering.
So, there it is so far.
Wow. I was going to list of the movies I planned on seeing this year until I saw just how many there are. Let's revise this as a list of movies I plan to see, I HOPE to see, and I might see depending on reviews and whether or not the kids want to see it.
I plan to see:
DIE HARD - A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, IRON MAN 3, RED 2, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, ENDER'S GAME, THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG
I hope to see:
MAN OF STEEL, KICK ASS 2, CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS, DESPICABLE ME 2, MONSTER UNIVERSITY
I might see:
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, EVIL DEAD, OBLIVION, THE WOLVERINE, THE SMURFS 2, DISNEY'S PLANES, PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS, ESCAPE FROM PLANET EARTH

I was looking for your review on Jack Reacher. Ièm no reviewer, but I thought it was a good movie.
Steve
That's because I haven't seen Jack Reacher. I might yet. I have nothing against Tom Cruise movies, I just can't see everything. :)
